30 Days of Identity: I am God's Child

Read this 60 Second devotion. Each day, based on our verse of the day, we will add one new label to our Christian identity. At the end of 30 Days, we will have a life affirming, identity forming declaration. This is life changing stuff! --- Day 8
The Word - "But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12-13 ESV
A Thought - When we think of being a "Child of God," we tend to view that moniker through a 21st Century lens. We hear, I depend on God. He takes care of me, kisses my boo boos and has to accept me the way I am. We tend to have the viewpoint of most 21st Century children that Dad owes us something.
When the Scriptures discuss being a son or daughter of God, they are using a 2000 year old (or older) understanding of those terms. Being a Child of God means that we have obligations to our Heavenly Father, that we are expected to go into the family business, and we give great credence to His view of who we are. Of course, it also means that we have special access to our Heavenly Father, an inheritance, and status. In our case, Dad is the King of Creation which means that not only are we God's Children, we are Royal Children. So, from now on, you can introduce yourself this way, "Hi, my name is (insert your name here) and I'm kind of a big deal. My Dad is the King."
My Prayer of Declaration - Lord, because of You, I am a New Creation, I am Forgiven, I am Reconciled to God, I am Free, I am Loved, I am complete, I am a citizen of Heaven and I am God's Child. - All blessing, honor, glory, power and praise are Yours, Amen.
