30 Days of Identity: I am the Salt of the Earth
Read this 60 Second devotion. Each day, based on our verse of the day, we will add one new label to our Christian identity. At the end of 30 Days, we will have a life affirming, identity forming declaration. This is life changing stuff! --- Day 30
The Word - “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet." Matthew 5:13 ESV
A Thought - This verse, rather than being a positive, is often used to brow beat people and make them feel bad for not performing well enough as Christians. Actually, it is the opposite. It is a powerful truth about the preserving, life-giving, flavor adding presence of God's people.
Salt, aka sodium chloride (NaCl) cannot become "not salt" and lose its saltiness unless its molecular bonds are broken. The salt that we use for food and preservation is mostly, but not all sodium chloride. But, 2000 years ago, salt often came from crude sources and was not nearly as pure as our modern salt is. It was possible back then for the NaCl to be washed out of the "salt." You would still have crystals but they would not be salty. They would be useless.
Your are important, and the world needs you. As a follower of Jesus, you add flavor, and bring something essential to this world that we all share.
My Prayer of Declaration - Lord, because of You, I am a New Creation, I am Forgiven, I am Reconciled to God, I am Free, I am Loved, I am complete, I am a citizen of Heaven, I am God's Child, I am Strong, I am not afraid, I am God's Masterpiece, His Ambassador, His Witness and He Welcomes me. I am a Servant of God (just like Jesus), I am more than a Conqueror, I am Holy, I am becoming more like Jesus every day, I have been delivered from darkness, I am chosen, I am a priest, I am a Temple of the Holy Spirit, I'm on a Mission from God, I am full of hope and I have been given a spirit not of fear but of power, love and self-control! I am Jesus' friend, He has justified me, I am a New Creation, and I am the salt of the earth.- All blessing, honor, glory, power and praise are Yours, Amen.
