Day 12-30 Days of Being a Better Human
The Word - "...if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive." Colossians 3:13b ESV
A Thought - Take a moment and try to think of every wrong thought, or action you've ever done. Think of every pride-filled, malicious act on your sin resume. Jesus forgave those sins. That's the standard. It's not even optional. We "must forgive" too.
Deviating from our normal format, the following is my 3 phase prayer for forgiving when you can't bring yourself to do it.
1. Get real with God. Lord, I know that I should forgive _______, but I have no desire to do it. Please, give me the desire to forgive ___. (You may have to repeat for days, weeks, or)
2. Stay real with God. Lord, I know that I should forgive ______. I choose to forgive ____, please help me do that. (Again, this could take a while)
3. Rejoice with God. Thank you, Lord. I have forgiven ______. Help me to continue to walk in that forgiveness.
Pro Tip: Forgiveness is like an onion. You may have to peel away layer after layer. Repeat this process as many times as you need to. Be patient and work through it. There is freedom waiting at the other end of the forgiveness journey.
A Prayer - Lord, today I lift up those that are struggling with unforgiveness. Encourage them with the faith to come to You and ask for help. - In Jesus' name, Amen.
Touch the Hem of Jesus' Robe and transform your life, 60 seconds at a time. - Scott
