Day 21-30 Days of Being a Better Human
The Word - "Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you." Hebrews 13:17 ESV
A Thought - Leadership is a heavy burden on its own. My little issue may seem tiny to me, but when its placed on my pastor's shoulders, it may be the extra ounce of weight that drops him to his knees. Remember, not everything is that big of a deal. Not every little problem needs to be brought to the attention of your pastor/boss/leader. Not every detail is worth arguing over. Not every thought that comes into your mind needs to come out of your mouth
A Prayer - Lord, I want to be a blessing to those who lead me. Help me to filter what I say and the issues I raise, so that only the things that really matter will be placed on my leader's shoulders. Teach me to be a great follower. Show how me to contribute in a way that is positive and uplifting. - In Jesus' name, Amen.
BONUS! - How to Pray When You Disagree With Your Pastor - Sometimes we disagree with our leaders. On rare occasions, that disagreement may be significant. I believe that God is Sovereign and that He can change our hearts and minds, so on those occasions when I can't just let something go, I pray like this,
"Father, You know that I am in disagreement with Pastor _______. If I am wrong, please change my heart. If he is wrong, please change his heart. Until then, protect our relationship from injury or division. In Jesus' Name, Amen"
I have prayed this way many times and found that I rarely have to even raise a point of disagreement. God handles it for me.
