The Word - "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness." James 3:9 ESV

A Thought - "Sticks and Stones may Break my Bones but Names will Never Hurt Me." That statement is not true. Of course, it is not meant to be a statement of truth. It is a statement of intent. It means "I do not intend to let you hurt me with your words." The reason "Sticks and Stones" isn't true is that words can be extremely hurtful. Words leave scars. They can lead people to heinous acts of self hatred; even suicide. We must be thoughtful about what we say and to whom we say it. Our tongues are like fire. They can provide light and life, or they can bring death and destruction. I choose to use my tongue to speak words of life. You?

A Prayer - Lord, I am guilty of saying some things that are not life giving. In fact, they're down right hurtful. Help me to be thoughtful about what I say. Let me speak blessing and truth. Let me speak encouragement and life. Lord, bring my tongue under your rule.- In Jesus' name, Amen.
