This 30 Days Series will lead us to Touch the Hem of Jesus' Robe by taking a look at the Gospel of Mark.
The Word - "And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” Mark 6:4 ESV
A Thought - Jesus was right. It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, in the eyes of your parents and siblings, you're still a big, goofy kid. As soon as Jesus showed up in his hometown, people started bringing up his past and dismissing him just as they probably did when he was a kid. I think that's what we all go through when we grow as followers of Jesus. Our families have a hard time keeping up with the change. Looks like that's just part of the normal Christian life.
A Prayer - Lord, sometimes it's difficult for me to have to answer for who I was, or how I was perceived by others a long time ago. Help me to respond with kindness even when I am marginalized. Help me to respond with humility when my ego is bruised. Help me to maintain my testimony even when I am mocked and ridiculed. I want to walk victoriously through this very normal Christian life. - In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
Note: Being treated like a kid by your parents isn't always a bad thing. Some people would love to have just one more chance to be babied by their parents. In addition, Respect is nice, but Jesus never demanded it, so neither should we. I just chose today's title because what Jesus said reminded me of an old comedian who always said, " I get no respect."
