Mark: Day 17 - I'm Kind of a Big Deal
This 30 Days Series will lead us to Touch the Hem of Jesus' Robe by taking a look at the Gospel of Mark.
The Word - "And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” Mark 9:35 ESV
A Thought - Sometimes, as a joking way to introduce myself, I'll say, "Hi, I'm Scott and I'm kind of a big deal." Then I laugh (some people need help getting the joke). We live in a world where we are constantly comparing ourselves to others. In our comparisons, we hope to determine if we are better than the next guy. In fact, that is exactly what the disciples were doing when Jesus spoke today's verse.
If we are going to connect with Jesus, we are going to have to be like Him. He was a servant of all, so we must be servants of all. In the Kingdom of God, that is the pathway to greatness.
A Prayer - Lord, everything in the world around me tells me that the more stuff I have and the more leisure time I enjoy, the more successful I am. You tell me that those things don't matter, but serving others does. I know you are right but It is hard to live that out. Help me, Lord. Teach me how to serve others well. - In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
