Mark: Day 18 - You Fer Us or Agin Us?
This 30 Days Series will lead us to Touch the Hem of Jesus' Robe by taking a look at the Gospel of Mark.
The Word - "John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. For the one who is not against us is for us. For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.” Mark 9:38-40 ESV
A Thought - Johnny Depp once described the US as being like a puppy with long teeth; a French colloquialism for being young and rambunctious. Have you ever met new Christians like that? Were you one? The knee jerk reaction of most people is to try to calm them down; to bring them to heel. I think of the man in today's scripture as one of those puppies with long teeth. The disciples tried to bring him to heel but Jesus said to leave the guy alone and to think of this rambunctious exorcist as being on their team.
If someone has discouraged your zeal for the Lord, don't let that be your forever story. Get your zeal back. Sick 'em, puppy!
A Prayer - Lord, forgive me for not encouraging new, zealous Believers. Help me to be a cheerleader and a helper to young, rambunctious Christians that want to do something great for their Savior. - In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
