Pray All the Time

“16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing,18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

I don’t know about you, but praying without ceasing seems kind of like an impossible task. Have you tried it? I have... and failed... a lot.

GOOD NEWS!

Sometimes it’s really hard to get an idea across perfectly into English. This is one of those times. “Without ceasing“ literally means non-stop. However, in this passage, non-stop is more like when two people are riding in a car on a long trip. They are together, non-stop, listening for the other to speak, taking a turn at speaking, or pausing between topics.

The idea is simply that we are on a life-long, conversation road trip with Jesus. We may ask for directions, discuss old wounds, point out something breathtaking, laugh together, or just listen to the sound of the tires on the highway. The important thing is that we’re together, without ceasing, enjoying a life long conversation.
