The Hem of His Garment
There is a story in the Bible that tells of a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years. Somehow she got it in her head that if she could just reach out and touch Jesus, she would be healed. Just one touch! (Matthew 9. Mark 5, Luke 8)
The people were pressing in so hard around Jesus that the Greek word used to describe the experience makes it clear that it was less like pressing in and more like crushing. Nevertheless, this women wormed and wiggled her way through the crowd. Her focus was singular. She had to touch Jesus.
As the story goes, she touched Jesus and was healed immediately. There are many things that we can learn from this story. I will write more about that later. The point for today is this: the woman in question did not make a big deal out of it. There were no bear hugs, no loud proclamations, no drawing attention to herself, no grand gestures. There was just one, simple, life-changing touch.
I am convinced that if we will simply "touch the hem of Jesus' garment" like this woman did, we too will be irrevocably changed for the better.
I am creating daily devotions that equated to a simple touch of the hem. They are designed to take no longer than 60 seconds of your time but have a lasting impact on your life. Sign up to follow my blog and join our humble pursuit of Jesus.
